In the recent time, Dick and Betsy DeVos have gained a lot of attention as well as criticisms for their huge donations. A recent report suggests that the family has contributed about $139 M for charitable purposes, throughout their life.

In the year 2015, the West Michigan couple had donated about $11.6 million for the charitable purpose, which is the double of $5.3 million, the amount she paid for campaign donations for the post of the cabinet to the federal government, in the last five years.

Dick DeVos is the son of Richard DeVos, who is enlisted as the 88th richest person on Earth with a net worth of $ 5.1 billion. Mr. DeVos began to work at his father’s company Amway, in the year 1970 and achieved the post of vice president in the year 1984. The company generates revenue of about $9.5 billion the former year. Thus, it is needless to say that the DeVos dynasty has been a long term player in the Republican politics. The DeVos dynasty has donated away $104 million for charitable causes in the year 2015, consolidating their family position on 24 amongst the top giver’s list of America on Forbes. Betsy DeVos, on the other hand, is the daughter of the renowned industrialist, late Edgar Prince, whose family is equally known for their political background as well as philanthropic activities.

The West Michigan couple seems to have set up education on their priority list, as they allotted more than $3 million for educational causes, which is about 26 percent of their total charitable donation for the year 2015. Besides, their foundation to has donated $357,000, which is equivalent to about 3 percent of the total amount for educational reforms. According to the Educational Secretary, she realized it soon that the system was failing at fulfilling the dream of the Americans; it was rather increasing the problem of civil rights. She believes that the knowledgeable teachers and administrators have been already giving their best shots, and thus they have been trying to improve the overall system, to help the experienced educators in reaching out to every child.

However, the report lacks a proper breakdown of the people who have been benefitted from the donations provided by the couple, in the year 2015. As per the tax records of the foundation, the contributions have helped the Michigan schools, particularly in the year 2013. The other beneficiaries in the same year includes, Cinematic Arts, Grand Rapids, who received a fund around $50,000, West Michigan Aviation Academy who received fund of $315,000, Northwood University, Midland who received $200,000, Ferris State University, $100,000, Potter’s House, Wyoming, $ 301, 000, etc. to mention a few.
